Around 800 extremist Bengali terrorists attack Tatmadaw troops on security operations

Tatmadaw column, upon receiving report that extremist Bengali terrorists were planting mines on Nwa Yone Taung and Thiho Kyun motor road in Rakhine State’s Maungdaw Township, rushed to the scene, and spotted around 15 terrorists planting mines some 100 meters to the south of Thiho Kyun village around 9 am on August 26. Tatmadaw troops opened fire on them, and they retreated to the east of the motor road.

As Tatmadaw troops then pursued the terrorists, they fired shots from the west of Thiho Kyun Market with small arms and exploded five explosive devices with electrical detonators to push back the Tatmadaw troops. As the two sides exchanged fire, around 800 extremist Bengali terrorists attacked the Tatmadaw column with small arms, sticks, swords, and forks from the right and left flanks of the motor road. Tatmadaw columns had had to resist their attack.

Then Tatmadaw reinforcements came in, but other column of extremist terrorists attacked them with small arms and remotely operated mines from the north of the village. Tatmadaw troops successfully repulsed and terrorists withdrew to surrounding villages around 1.45 pm.
A Tatmadaw soldier went missing and a small firearm and related ammunitions were lost in the attacks. Tatmadaw troops are undertaking clearance operations in and around the village.
